SAS Saldanha Provincial Nature Reserve is an 876-hectare area showcasing the West Coast's natural wonders. The reserve is located inside the military grounds of SAS Saldanha, the naval base and academy. The reserve has a rich history, dating back to World War II when Saldanha Bay was used as a convoy staging point and coastal defence site. Visitors can explore the historical buildings, bunkers, and lookout posts, as well as the old farmhouse and graveyard. The reserve also boasts a variety of indigenous fynbos, birds, and animals and offers four hiking trails ranging from 4 to 14 km.
