Elands Bay Cave

Elands Bay Cave is located near Elands Bay on the West Coast of the Western Cape, South Africa, overlooking the area surrounding the harbour. Visitors can view San and Khoe rock art, explore the cave’s archaeological features, and follow the designated pathway to learn about its cultural and historical significance. The cave contains evidence of human occupation dating back more than 80,000 years and was used intermittently from the Middle Stone Age through later periods. Notable features include paintings of eland, other animals and numerous handprints, some of which are believed to have been made by children and young teenagers.
