About Elands Bay Cave
Elands Bay Cave, just 5 kilometres from the Elands Bay village centre, boasts remarkable San and Khoi rock art. Inhabited for over 80,000 years, from the Middle Stone Age to around 500 years ago, the cave features large eland depictions, revered by the San, as well as smaller animals and countless handprints, believed to be those of youngsters. While open to the public, visitors are urged to stick to marked paths and avoid touching the art to preserve these ancient treasures.
