About Towerkop Mountain

At 2189 metres high, the unusual split peaks of Towerkop Mountain are a popular albeit challenging climb that rewards hikers with unsurpassed views of the surrounding countryside. Appropriately named, the mountain towers over the town of Ladismith, and owes its appearance to the actions of an angry witch, according to legend. The story goes that, in a hurry to get home, the witch’s journey was disrupted by the peak so she whacked it with her wand and split it in two.
