About Trichardt Potgieter Monument
The Trichardt Potgieter Monument commemorates the journey undertaken by Commandant Potgieter and 28 men over Kaspersnek during the winter of 1844. They followed the path of the river, named Treur River that same year, leading to Delagoa Bay. On the 22nd of July 1844, an agreement regarding border arrangements with the Portuguese was reached at Delagoa Bay. In October 1845, Karel Trichardt led a party of wagons carrying merchandise on the same route to Delagoa Bay.
