Cannibal Cave

Cannibal Cave, located in the Drakensberg mountains of South Africa, is a historic site with a striking past. At this attraction, visitors can hike scenic trails through lush mountain terrain, enjoy birdwatching, and explore the cave’s dramatic rock formations. Activities include trekking the 6–7 km route, spotting indigenous plants such as berg bamboo and protea, and viewing faded Bushman paintings inside the cave. Notably, the site earned its name from tragic events during King Shaka’s wars, when starving tribes sought refuge here and resorted to cannibalism.
