About Kuruman

Endowed with a largely unspoilt landscape on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, Kuruman is the principal town of the Kalahari Region, ideally located in the Northern Cape’s Namakwari Route. Resting on the foothills of the Ghaap Plateau, this oasis town is home to the Billy Duvenhage Nature Reserve, inhabited by a vast array of wildlife and bird species. It is the gateway to the internationally renowned Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, a wonderland of 3,6 million hectares of desert. At the centre of the village, a natural fountain known as ‘The Eye’ delivers millions of gallons of water to the town. For those interested in archaeology, the enthralling Wondererk Cave, an enormous cave encompassing bushman paintings and has played an essential role in local culture and religion over many centuries.
