About Vryburg
Located due west of Klerksdorp and Orkney in the Bophirima region of the North West Province, Vryburg is a large farm town with interesting history, wonderful nature reserves and an array of animals. Just outside the town, the famous Voortrekker Monument honours the Great Trek, when 12,000 Afrikaner families hiked into the remote interior to escape the British colonial forces. At the Molopo Game Reserve, animal lovers can see antelope, warthog, cheetah, brown hyena, caracal, black-backed jackal, African wildcat, honey badger, and spotted genet. The reserve is also ideal for birdwatching, as it is home to 120 species of birds. The Leon Taljaard Nature Reserve is home to over 100 types of birds, white rhino, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and buck. Other highlights include: fascinating rock engravings at Kinderdam, an excellent golf course, several resorts, and a variety of outdoor sports.
