About Ottosdal
The tiny farming village of Ottostal lies west of Klerksdorp, on one of the North West main rail lines, and is renowned for its Klerksdorp Spheres: three-billion-year-old pyrophyllite deposits which look like grooved bowling bowls and are believed by some to be alien objects. Culture, history and archaeology enthusiasts will be enthralled even further by the range of Khoisan rock engravings and Stone Age implements on local farms. Ottostal is popular among runners for its incredible annual Night Marathon, which more than 1000 people take part in every year. At the Madikwe Game Reserve visitors can watch lions, leopards, and endangered wild dogs roam the plains, and at the Bloemhof Dam fishing enthusiasts can experience the best fresh-water dam fishing in the country. In neighbouring Mafikeng, sports lovers can enjoy world-class golf on the rolling grounds of the Leopard Park Golf Club.
