Mafikeng

Mafikeng is a major tourism destination for its history, culture and wildlife. Visitors can learn about its heritage by making a stop at the Mafikeng Museum, the Kanon Kopje in the south east, the Kgotla of the Barolong Boora Tshidi and the Mafikeng Siege Cemetery nearby, and various sites honouring Sol Plaatjie. The Mafikeng Game Reserve offers sights of various game including white rhino, lion and crocodiles. Game viewing can also be done at the Botsalano Game Reserve 30km west of the city. For a taste of culture, visitors will enjoy the Lotlamoreng Cultural Reserve. Near here is the waterfowl sanctuary of the Montshiwua Dam and the Modimola Dam, which is popular with anglers and picnickers.
