About Vanrhynsdorp
Resting in the folds of the sky-scraping Matzikamma and Gifberg Mountains on the West Coast Way Wild Route, the settlement of Vanrhynsdorp is a quaint, pretty town boasting stunning flowers and eccentric attractions. The town is ideally positioned to explore the Namaqualand flower region and explodes with shades of purple and orange after the winter rains. The largest succulent nursery of its kind is located here, blooming with 500 species of indigenous succulents including 50 of which are endemic to the area. Curious landmarks include Traut’s Tie Collection, a museum of ties from as long ago as the 1800’s collected by a local barman; and the Latsky Radio Museum, a massive collection of all kinds of radios, including one which once belonged to a Russian spy ship and was used to encrypt messages during the Cold War.
