About Steinkopf

Steinkopf lies in the stunning Namakwa District Municipality in the Northern Cape, roughly 45 kilometres north-north-west of Springbok, which is sometimes seen as encompassing Steinkopf. The mission town surrounds the Rhenish Mission Church, built in the 1840s, and is home to a wealth of interesting heritage. Most notably, Steinkopf is still home to the indigenous Nama people, and many of whom continue to live in traditional, rounded reed huts. Visitors to the town can experience Nama music, dancing, food and ceremonies first hand. The land is also home to distinctive Khoekhoen Rock Art, which is characterised by finger applications of the paint. Make sure to spend an afternoon in the pretty Immanuel Succulent Nursery, which includes craft exhibitions and a lovely tearoom. Several scenic hikes, as well as donkey cart rides, are on offer.
