About Waterval Boven
Resting on the banks of the beautiful Elands River, Waterval Boven is a small town tucked amidst the glorious Drakensberg Mountains. It was established as a railway depot in 1898 and today, it is rich with heritage buildings, historical sites and national monuments. Visitors can look forward to viewing the 75-metre-high Elands Falls, trout fishing in the surrounding rivers and dams, and hiking or horse riding through spectacular scenery. Other highlights include the old Railway Tunnel, the Five Arch Bridge, and President Paul Kruger's official residence where he resided in 1900. Adventure lovers can enjoy the famous rock climbing cliffs offering an excellent challenge for the adventurous at heart.
