About Berg-en-Dal War Memorial
The Berg-en-dal (or Bergendal) Monument, situated just outside eMakhazeni in Mpumalanga, South Africa, was erected in 1935. This memorial commemorates the soldiers who lost their lives in the significant Battle of Berg-en-dal during the Anglo-Boer War in August 1900. South African General Louis Botha led local troops against the British but was compelled to retreat. In 1970, the remains of those who perished in the battle were reinterred beneath the monument, perpetuating the memory of this historic event.
