About Haenertsburg
Set on the slopes of the Great Escarpment in the Limpopo Province, between Polokwane and Tzaneen, the picture-perfect village of Haenertsburg is blanketed in bright green forests, shrouded in mists and home to bright pink, purple and orange flowers. Here, the highest tree in South Africa, a Blue Gum tree standing at 82,5 metres high, makes its home, and one of the steepest mountain passes in the country, the Magoebaskloof pass, offers a dramatic hike for outdoor enthusiasts. A wealth of mountain biking, horseriding and 4x4 trails wind through indigenous grasslands, and several gorgeous dams are filled with trout. Historic attractions include a memorial dedicated to famous Scottish writer John Buchan who once lived here, and a War Memorial commemorating those who lost their lives in the Makgoba War. Make sure to try the delicious traditionally-made cheese at Wegraakbosch Dairy.
