About Makapan's Valley

Makapan's Valley, located in Limpopo Province, South Africa, is a UNESCO-listed archaeological and palaeontological site within the Makapansgat and Zwartkrans Valleys. Visitors can explore caves that reveal a record of human occupation spanning the Early Stone Age through the Iron Age. Notably, the site yielded Australopithecus africanus fossils dating back nearly three million years, and it is also associated with the famous Makapansgat Pebble, thought to represent the earliest known example of symbolic thinking by early hominids.
