About Lapalala Wilderness East Gate
Lapalala Wilderness is a private nature reserve within the Waterberg Biosphere, Limpopo Province, South Africa. This 48,124 ha reserve contains bushveld, grasslands, marsh and riparian habitats. Amongst the numerous mammal species resident at Lapalala Wilderness are the infamous Big 5 – the elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Also, there are well preserved Stone Age rock paintings on bluffs above the Palala River that flows through this wilderness area. The Waterberg Biosphere itself is the first region in the northern part of South Africa to be named as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
