About Brenton Butterfly Reserve
Perched at an elevation of 90 to 115 metres above sea level, Brenton Butterfly Reserve slopes southward, spanning approximately 2 hectares, and is a haven for the rare Brenton Blue Butterfly, one of the world's most elusive species. It encompasses a blend of coastal fynbos and coastal forest, providing a diverse habitat for a multitude of insects, mammals, and birds. The reserve boasts a complex landscape of candlewood thickets and asteraceous fynbos, forming a captivating mosaic of vegetation. Abundant within the reserve is the food plant of the Brenton Blue butterfly, a petite pea-family plant adorned with delicate pink flowers.
