About Colesberg
Strategically located on the main Cape Town to Johannesburg route, Colesberg is a traveller's oasis encompassed by classic Karoo veld. The town's picturesque landscape features typical Karoo koppies, with Coleskop as a prominent landmark. Colesberg is renowned for top-quality merino sheep farming, racehorse breeding, and well-preserved 19th-century Karoo architecture. Visitors can explore national monuments like the Colesberg-Kemper Museum, set in a historic bank building. On the south-eastern banks of the Vanderkloof Dam lies the Doornkloof Nature Reserve, home to kudu, eland, brown hyaena, mountain reedbuck, steenbok, grey duiker, bat-eared fox, aardvark and aardwolf. A hiking trail, an overnight hut, and horse trails are also available.
