About Hotazel
Situated in the Northern Cape close to the border with Botswana, Hotazel is a remote town of pure Kalahari bush offering extreme landscapes perfect for dramatic photography. The town has been immortalised in a famous book: Obie Oberholzer’s ‘The Hotazel Years - 30 Years of Photographing Southern Africa’. Those interested in ancient peoples can discover more about the San people who lived here for thousands of years. More recent history includes the famous Camel Patrols, an olden-day version of the police flying squad, on camels. Also significant is the open-quarry manganese ore mine and sinter plant, which is said to be the largest in the world and is South Africa’s first manganese mine owned by a black woman. The town is home to a luxury lodge, swimming pool, and 3G access.
