About Nkomo Primary School

Nkomo Primary School is a deep rural school, situated along the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The school started in 1998 with 60 children and one teacher (Themba Zikhali). At that time, there were no classrooms, so teaching and learning took place under the trees. The school currently educates more than 900 learners, and has 24 educators and 8 support staff. Many of their students have special needs and have been orphaned by the scourge of HIV/AIDS. They are very proud of their Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) program which serves many of their students needs beyond education. The school has 17 classrooms and, through the generous support of their partners, they have been able to add many ancillary facilities to serve the needs of the children.
