Vuka Bambe is a beacon for what people can do to ensure that children get a good start in life. But like many communities in Africa, each day is a struggle. Children's needs are constant and in ensuring their future, Vuka Bambe and One Horizon needs your help and participation. It is worth remembering that:

* Progress made in reducing child hunger is at risk of being reversed
* 1.7 million children (9% of all children) live in shacks in backyards or squatter settlements
* Nearly 1.5 million children (8% of all children) live in households with no toilet facilities
* Unemployment is a major problem for the country.
* One in four South Africans, 4.5m people, are unemployed (out of a total of 17 million).
