About Irene
A small village located just south of Pretoria, Irene is a picturesque neighbourhood set in the town of Centurion. Irene’s most notable resident is former prime minister Jan Smuts who died there in 1950. During the Second Anglo-Boer War, (1899-1902) the area was the site of over forty concentration camps. Local attractions include Smuts House Museum, Irene Village Dairy, and Rietvlei Nature Reserve.
