Stilbaai Tidal Fish Traps

The Stilbaai Tidal Fish Traps are ancient intertidal stonewall fish traps located along the Southern Cape coast of South Africa. These traps were built to trap fish during a falling tide and have been declared a National Heritage Site in 2018. They are located within a Marine Protected Area and are managed by Cape Nature. Local fishermen and farmers have maintained these fish traps since at least the early 20th century. Recent efforts by the greater community have contributed to preserving and maintaining indigenous knowledge about fish traps.
