About Kareedouw

Located just an hour from Plettenberg Bay and even closer to Jeffrey’s Bay, and forming the gateway to the splendour of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness and Tsitsikamma mountains, the Eastern Cape town of Kareedouw has been called ‘the jewel of South Africa’. The Eerste Rivier Beach is known as one of the best-kept secrets of the district, with its warm Indian Ocean waters perfect for swimming, the gorgeous Blue Hole and other tidal pools fantastic for snorkelling, and schools of dolphins often gracing its waves. Animal lovers will also delight in the magnificent birdwatching opportunities of the Tsitsikamma, the graceful and fierce beasts of the Wolf Sanctuary, and the charming horses of the Moria Riding School. A rich heritage of Khoi Khoi communities forms the character and history of the region, which is named after famous Khoi woman Sarah Baartman.
