Smithfield

One of the oldest towns in the Free State, Smithfield has a rich historical heritage and is dotted with beautiful old buildings, several of which have been declared national monuments. The surrounding hills hide a number of ancient treasures, including a Stone Age archaeological site and dozens of Bushmen paintings, while in recent years, the establishment of The Artist’s Colony, a lodge/restaurant/art gallery, has added a dash of bohemian flair to the town.
