About Frankfort

Resting on the banks of the Wilge River, south-east of the Vaal Dam and Vereeniging, the beautiful agricultural village of Frankfort provides a charming ‘off the beaten track’ detour between Johannesburg and Durban. The town makes a picturesque walking destination with its wide streets dotted with old cottages and historic buildings, most notably the striking stone Dutch Reformed Church, built in 1873, and several other buildings which have been declared national monuments. Art lovers should make sure to stop in at Namahadi's Art and Crafts Centre, to see the phenomenal, brightly-coloured beadwork made by the local community. In neighbouring Parys, history and geology lovers can visit the biggest and oldest meteorite impact site (Astrobleme) in the world, the Vredefort Dome, while the nearby Vaal Dam presents a world of watersports to enjoy.
