About Allanridge
Located in the Lejweleputswa region of the Free State Province, the gold mining town of Allanridge is a surprisingly pretty village boasting several interesting natural and historical landmarks. The Allanridge Flamingo Lake is inhabited by beautiful flocks of flamingos as well as a range of other bird species, and on the whole, the town offers abundant opportunities for birdwatching and fishing. At the Aandenk Memorial, history enthusiasts can see the spot where the first gold prospecting borehole in this area was drilled, and the Mynsinkgat Museum offers the chance to discover the history of gold mining in and around the town. Other highlights include: an old mine locomotive named “Paulina” at the entrance to the mine; and a variety of excellent sports facilities such as a 9-hole golf club, bowling green, swimming pool and squash courts.
