About Warden

The hundred-year-old town of Warden lies on the N3 route between Johannesburg and Durban, in the Free State Province of South Africa. The pretty town is part of the route called the Grasslands Meander, which offers travellers a wonderful array of arts and crafts, restaurants, galleries, picnic spots, nature reserves, and guesthouses. The heritage town is home to one of the biggest stone churches in the Southern Hemisphere, a Dutch Reformed Church larger than the Sydney Opera House. Other historic attractions include the Granite Target (an Anglo-Boer War practise site), and a collection of intriguing San rock paintings. Nature and wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy the cosmos wildflowers and the astonishing array of birdlife. Don’t miss the chance to cool off with some watersports on Warden Dam.
