About South African Jewish Museum
The South African Jewish Museum is located in Cape Town. The museum is a significant part of South African Jewish life, history, and identity. The museum tells the story of South Africa’s Jewish community from its 19th-century roots until now. It documents the community’s historical roots in Lithuania and elsewhere, the role of South African Jewry in South African society and their contributions to several diverse fields. The museum is home to the oldest synagogue in sub-Saharan Africa and is in the same complex as the Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre and the Gardens Jewish Community Centre.
