About SHAWCO Community Development Centre
The SHAWCO Community Development Centre aims to provide quality healthcare in poor communities. The non-profit organisation is run by the University of Cape Town and features 100 doctors and 800 medical student volunteers. Health care is available at various permanent facilities and mobile clinics in poor communities. Services provided include the treatment of diarrhoea, respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections, muscular-skeletal ailments and other non-speciality diseases.
