About Maclear's Beacon
Maclear's Beacon, a historic triangulation station, crowns the summit of Table Mountain. Constructed in 1844 by Sir Thomas Maclear, this stone cairn was used to measure the height of the mountain. At 1,086 metres above sea level, it marks the highest point on Table Mountain, standing 19 metres higher than the upper cable station.
