About Cape Floristic Region (TM)
The Table Mountain National Park forms part of the Cape Floristic Region, a World Heritage Site and one of the richest plant areas in the world. Most of the region is covered with fynbos, of which there are four major plant groups – Proteas, Ericas, Restios and Geophytes. An ancient plant type, fynbos has developed over millions of years. Fynbos’s endemism as well as a high rate of development and environmental degradation has led to the Cape Floristic Region being declared a threatened biodiversity hotspot.
