About Babanango
Located in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa, Babanango is a small town named after the nearby stream and mountain. Perched on a hilltop in the northern reaches of Zululand, this mist-shrouded village is said to be the highest in the region. It serves as an excellent stopover along the popular Battlefields Route, which follows the history of the Anglo-Boer and Anglo-Zulu battles. Histor enthusiasts can discover a collection of British forts dotting the surrounds including Fort Prospect, near Nkandla and Fort Marshall, built in 1879, which lies just 30 kilometres west of Babanango. It falls along the popular Zululand Birding Route, where over 600 species of bird can be spotted by eagle-eyed bird watchers. Don’t miss the opportunity to hike the stunning Umfolosi Thongaland Trail which traverses enchanting waterfall-dotted valleys and rolling green hills.
