About Seychelles National Library

Located in Victoria on Mahe Island in the Seychelles, the Seychelles National Library started its existence as the Carnegie Library in 1910. It was declared the Seychelles National Library in 1978 and, as its collection expanded and it started offering more specialised services, larger premises were required to accommodate the increasing stocks and growing number of readers, so a new building was constructed and the library opened on its current premises on Francis Rachel Street in 1994.

Today, the library comprises a children’s section, a reference section, an adult lending section, an internet section, a technical services unit, a mobile library service, and more. The National Archives are also located in the library and visitors who would like to learn more about the history of the Seychelles will find this section very interesting and informative.
