About Zoo Park
An oasis of lush greenery in the heart of Windhoek. Zoo Park initially functioned as a public zoo until 1962. During the park's 1962 reconstruction by Windhoek Municipality, a remarkable discovery emerged. Excavations unveiled the remains of two elephants and an assortment of ancient tools, signifying a Stone Age elephant hunt—a pioneering event in human history. Estimated to be over 5,000 years old, these elephant remains were subsequently relocated to the State Museum in 1990. Today, Zoo Park offers a serene picnic spot, a peaceful haven for lunching office workers seeking shade and relaxation.
