Topnaars Eco-Trail

The region south of Walvis Bay is characterised by striking landscape features and a wealth of archaeological sites, which include archaic middens, historical elephant tracks immortalised in river silt, and the scattered graves of the Topnaars, a nomadic people that has roamed the region for hundreds of years, living off their sheep, cattle and uniquely adapted desert flora. 4 x4 tours of this captivating region are popular and many are led by Topnaar guides, whose phenomenal knowledge of the area adds a fascinating dimension to the experience.
