About Martin Luther (Steam tractor) Museum

Martin Luther Steam Tractor is a monument standing at the roadside shortly before entering Swakopmund, Namibia and dates back to 1896. The steam tractor was the first means of merchandised transport as before it the only way of transporting goods was by walking, horseback or ox wagon. It was named after the founder of the Lutheran church, Martin Luther. The steam tractor was better than anything else at transporting goods except for when it would get stuck in the desert sands and have to be dug out by workers. The monument was badly corroded and damaged by the flooding of the Swakop river until being restored and replaced back in its place.
