About Brukkaros Mountain

Located in the Karas Region of Namibia, is an extinct volcano on Brukkaros Mountain. Its peak measures at 1590 metres and is over 600 metres taller than its surrounding area. Brukkaros Mountain was formed millions of years ago- when a magma pipe and a molten rock with a mixture of mineral or thin organic matter came into contact with groundwater about 1000 metres below the surface of the earth.

The name Brukkaros was derived from the Afrikaans word broek (trousers) and karos ( leather apron) concerning the traditional Namibian outfits called Geitsigubeb, worn by the Nama women.
