About Swartbooisdrift

Swartbooisdrift is located on the banks of the Kunene river, in the north of Namibia. The population in Swartbooisdrift ranges between 150 to 300 semi-nomadic people of the Himba and Herero descent, depending on the season.

Swartbooisdrift has some historical significance as it was the place where the Dorsland Trekkers crossed the Kunene River in 1881, moving into Angola. It is named after Petrus Swartbooi, one of the tribal chief captains who raided the area in 1890.
