About Dorsland Trek Monument
Near Swartbooisdrift on the Kunene River, the Dorsland Trek Memorial commemorates Afrikaans-speaking pioneers who migrated north in the late 19th century. The settlement is named after Petrus Swartbooi, a Swartbooi Nama chief who raided the area in the 1890s. The arid landscape holds remnants of their journey, including a reformed church near Kaoko Otavi.
