About Cape Cross Lodge Museum
Cape Cross gets its name from a stone pillar erected by Portuguese explorer Diego Cao. Cape Cross Lodge is 4km from theCape Cross Seal Reserve and offers accommodation, a restaurant, and a museum. The museum is inside the lodge and houses many remnants left by past settlers who visited the area to fish, mine salt and hunt whales.
The museum is open to the public as well as in-house guests. Torpedo bottles, canon balls or the inner ear of a whale can all be found alongside the treasures of yesteryear left behind by the pioneers who survived the harsh conditions of the Namib to build the first ever narrow gauge railway line in Namibia.
