About Quelimane
Quelimane is a tranquil city in central Mozambique located 25 kilometres south of the Bons Sinais River mouth. It is a convenient stopover between northern and southern Mozambique, best known for being visited by the famous explorer Dr David Livingstone in 1856. The town’s historical heritage is reflected in its dilapidated but still picturesque 18th-century church, the Avenida Marginal Cathedral. Foodies should not miss out on tasting the regional culinary specialty, frango a zambeziana - chicken topped with a rich coconut sauce.
