Black River Gorges National Park

Dramatic landscapes define this stunning expanse in Mauritius, the island nation’s only national park, encompassing almost 70 square kilometres of lush elevated rainforest, drier low-lying woodlands, and wetlands. The park features steep cliffs, deep valleys, and vibrant waterfalls, creating a haven for nature enthusiasts. Established in 1994 to protect the island’s unique biodiversity, it is home to an array of endemic plant, bird, and animal species, including the Mauritian flying fox, the Mauritius parakeet, and the extremely rare pink pigeon.
