About Ebony Forest Reserve Charamel
Spanning 50 hectares amidst the lush highland village of Chamarel, the Ebony Forest Chamarel or simply the "Ebony Forest" is a conservation project aimed at restoring, protecting and conserving the forest's endemic flora and fauna. With the help of schools, NGOs, funding bodies, government and private companies, 141 000 endemic and native plants have been planted, wildlife has been reintroduced, and an ecology centre has been created. Highlights include stunning viewpoints, canopy walkways, guided tours or safaris, a museum, a restaurant and educational facilities. Not to be missed is the stunning sight of the giant Aldabra tortoise.
