Zambia, situated at the crossroads of Central and Southern Africa, is predominantly covered in vast Miombo woodlands, interspersed with swamps and dams. In the wetter regions, tropical forests have flourished, while the drier southern areas feature mopane and acacia woodlands, along with gallery forests lining the Zambezi Valley. Although the country boasts only two endemic bird species — Chaplin's Barbet and the Black-cheeked Lovebird — it offers an impressive array of sought-after species, including the African Pitta and Pel’s Fishing Owl. With just over 780 species to be found throughout the many diverse ecosystems, and roughly 365 species in Livingstone alone, Zambia remains one of Africa’s most underrated birding destinations.
