About Swartberg Tour and Traditional Lunch
Experience the Swartberg Pass, the highest rated pass in Africa with its amazing history dating back to 1881. This UNESCO World Heritage with 360 degrees’ views has so much variety that its almost impossible to take in.
Guided tours depart from Kobus se Gat restaurant – only 10 minutes’ drive from the Cango Caves. We ascent 950m to the top of the pass with various info stops and many photo opportunities. At the summit (top) you can overlook the Little and Great Karoo for over 200km with your bare eyes, it is a marvelous place to find your soul.
We give you the opportunity to do a 30-minute hike in the reserve or along the road where you will get lost between 500 different species of fauna and flora. After your hike we return along the same route and give you the option to add downhill mountain biking at an additional cost.
Traditional Karoo Cuisine awaits you back at Kobus se Gat Restaurant. Here you will feast on certified Karoo lamb chops, boerewors, ostrich kebabs, pumpkin fritters, variety of salads, vegetables freshly harvested from our gardens and warm Roosterkoek served with homemade marmalades. Roosterkoek (in Afrikaans – Askoekkie) is a traditional bread prepared on the coals.
