About Kanunshya Camp
The Kanunshya campsite, on the East bank of the Luangwa River, is positioned at the confluence of the Mwaleshi and Luangwa Rivers. Boasting some spectacular game viewing it overlooks a pod of 200-400 hippos, season dependent. North Luangwa National Park is located on the opposite bank to the campsite, where elephants, baboon and antelope may be seen roaming about near the water. Drift off to sleep to the sounds of snorting hippos, squabbling as they leave the river to feed. The abundance of resident crocodiles makes swimming and strolling close to the river’s edge unsafe.
The campsite comes equipped with a Flush toilet, wash basin and shower. All are fed from a drum of water which is filled by hand. The two caretakers will arrange hot showers on request and provide a campfire in the evening. They are happy to help with other camp chores should campers wish to make an independent, private arrangement with them.
Kanunshya camp is open annually from 15 June – 30 October.
