Galashiels Lodge

Whale Coast, South Africa

About Galashiels Lodge

The quaint Victorian village of Stanford, nestled on the banks of the Klein River, is one of the unspoiled gems of the Overberg. There is always something different to be found around every corner: whether you explore the village on foot or bicycle, or whether you enjoy a trip down the river where over 120 bird species await your discovery. The mountainous surround is conducive to the creativity of many of the craftspeople in and around Stanford.

The Walker Bay area is renowned for its unique whale watching sites. The Hermanus Whale Festival in particular attracts visitors from all over the world who relish the experience of seeing these majestic creatures up close. The craggy coastal cliffs of De Kelders also provide a prime vantage point for viewing whales while enjoying a leisurely picnic lunch packed for you by the Galashiels staff. With both destinations within a short ten minute drive, yet far enough away from the madding crowd, Stanford is the ideal place to stay.
