Mashovhela Hammock Camp

On nights that the weather is good it is recommended that the night is spent at our Hammock Camp where one not only gets to view the incredibly beauty of the southern night sky, but gets the opportunity to listen to the calls and noises of the night in the African bush.

There is also the option for our local astronomer to introduce some of the planets, constellations, star clusters, nebulae and the South African mythology related to them.

Guests leave the lodge for the camp, with a guide, after dinner and head out with a head torch and a backpack with their hammock, sleeping bag and essentials. The camp, which is a short distance from the Lodge, but far enough away so that the lodge lights and activities aren’t noticed, has its own bush shower and toilet facilities.

Coffee and rusks can be enjoyed early the next morning.

Sleeping under the stars around a fire in the middle of the bush in Africa is not an experience to be missed.

Away from the lodge are our 2 x 10- persons hammock camps at our small waterfall, which allow for a unique experience to sleep under the amazing southern night sky with paraffin lamps, nested within issued sleeping bags and protected by insect nets.( Subject to availability and weather permitting the following rates will be charged) .

A bush Breakfast and or Dinner can be arranged and will be charged according to our rates.

1) FREE: Guests staying at Mashovhela Bush Lodge & Safari Tent for 3 nights and more have the option to sleep in the Hammock Camp at no extra cost if a FULL chalet Rack rate has been booked. ( luggage belongings stay in the booked chalet)(coffee & rusk included)

2) Guest staying less than 3 nights OR are booked on a “SPECIAL discounted Rate” and would like to stay at the Hammock camp will pay the following: ( luggage belongings stay in the booked chalet)(coffee & rusk included)

A minimum of 2 Adults fee of R50pp which includes coffee and rusks the next morning
Children under 12 years pay R25pp sharing with 2 Adults rate
Children 13 to 16 years pay R35pp when sharing with 2 Adults rate
3) If only a Hammock camp is booked, the Rack rates for a minimum of 2 Adults with a Bush meal is charged. In case of changing weather conditions during the night, a Tent with camping stretchers is provided. ( luggage belongings are kept in your vehicles at the Hammock camp.

A staff member will accompany the overnight stay at R200.00 per night
If no staff member is required a two way-radio, torch and first-aid kit will be issued with the bedding.
BUSH MEALS can also be booked in advance for a real bush experience
