Cedar Tourism

Cedar Tourism is based on a small island of private land completely surrounded by the Baviaanskloof World Heritage Site reserve. Cedar Tourism offers a guesthouse, honeymoon cottage and camping chalets for accommodation, with a farm style restaurant.

The guesthouse is surrounded by the red cliffs of the Baviaanskloof and has a beautiful view down the Cedar Valley. The century old house has been beautifully renovated with a slightly earthy touch to provide a tranquil and sheltered refuge amongst the rugged terrain of the kloof.

Sleeping options in the Cedar Farmhouse include one double room with king size bed, three twin rooms with two single beds in each. There is accommodation for 8 people sharing.

There are two luxurious bathrooms, both with baths and one with a shower, in addition to the private outside shower. A spacious lounge, a well-equipped kitchen, and a beautiful wraparound verandah make you feel comfortable and at home. Close to the house is a braai/barbeque area set in a landscaped indigenous garden - a stunning setting for star-filled nights around the fire.

You can find relief on hot days in a small plunge pool fed by clear, fresh water from the mountain stream.

The honeymoon cottage provides a romantic getaway and is situated where two valleys meet, embraced by deep red cliffs and touched by morning sunlight. The cottage was built in the late 1800s, and was the welcome "refuge" for Italian prisoners of war in the early 1940s. Its delicious charm lies in its simplicity - a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom built of stone and clay.

The cottage has been delicately renovated with the utmost respect for the beauty of the simple life and the warmth and history of the original earthy building materials. The cottage is fully equipped with gas appliances and cooking equipment, with a braai area outside. There is no power, with paraffin lamps for night light. The bath and shower are open to the sky, providing an unforgettable experience under the stars. The flush toilet is strategically placed apart to give you a beautiful view up the kloof.

The cottage is also located within three quarters of an hour's walk from magnificent bushmen paintings, and a ten minute walk from the Labyrinth.

This remains our favourite place for romantic getaways, with wide open spaces, red cliffs, endless beauty and a warm and cosy nest at the end of the day.

Cob Cottage lies in the valley against the cliffs on the far side of the valley and is tucked away and very private. It has a queen sized bed and very comfortable lounge. The open plan kitchen is fully equipped with gas appliances for self catering guests. There is a delightful bathroom, half open to the sky, so you can lie in the bath and watch the eagles and stars overhead. There is solar power in the cottage for lights or you can use the paraffin lamps provided.

The Cedar Falls Hike and Running Man Rock Art Trail are both accessible from your front door.

The three camping chalets are nestled against the poplar trees in an open field, within walking distance from the main farmhouse and restaurant area. These sweet cob buildings are a rondavel-type room with 2 beds in each and a lovely view down the fields. Single mattresses are provided, and guests need to bring their own bedding. (For special events bedding can be provided).

Each camping chalet has an attached bathroom open to the sky with flush toilet and a shower with solar geysers.

A boma area is available that features a little open kitchenette and braai area for those staying in the camping chalets. We provide a gas stove for cooking, sink with cold water for washing up and wood for the fire. Please note you are to bring your own utensils. Cars are required to park in a designated area 100 meters away from the Chalets.
